Based on Harold Pinter's Dumb Waiter
A Samagra Creations and Push and Pull Theatre production
In Hindustani
Conceptualised and Directed by Tushar Pandey
The idea of being watched and controlled by someone unknown marks
It explores a new form that hasn't been
tried much in our set-ups—the site-
specific form. The reason it has been
quite unexplored is that it requires new
performance spaces, hidden and
unconventional areas to take place. The
nature of performance is such that the
audience and the performers are
placed in separate rooms of the same
apartment.
The whole performance is viewed via CCTV cameras, television screens and laptops. This is performed in a suburban apartment in Mumbai and would be a completely different experience for the audience. Audiences' participation in the space and the unique relationship they would develop with the characters will be the USP of the play since the performance happens in real-time.
Also, not to walk in an auditorium but to walk in a space which is not imaginative (as theatre spaces typically tend to be), and is real is what the piece demands. Hence, this is an attempt to develop a new language in order to make the audience participate and make them
experience something they probably would not expect.
